Lasgidi has got a Mayor but USA gat none
For quite a while, Mayorkun has been on the “Mayor of Lagos” shit, he’s had Tours with the new-found title. And, then, his album had to come and it has finally landed “The Mayor of Lagos” LP was, among other things, to prove Mayorkun as the real prince of the Lasgidi music scene. A guy who a Lagos party will never be complete until his song has been bumped repeatedly.
Mayorkun needs to prove he’s not just an Average Artiste, What could answer that question, if not a 14-track debut album?

Feelings (Intro)

“Mayor of Lagos,” he croons on the intro, of the intro. With all the ‘Ajasas’ on the instrumental, this is still a hip-hop track, and it’s a hard one.
Sometimes you don’t know how he’s feeling when they pulling a trigger on him… Rejection, frustration, but now he’s the Mayor. He actually put his mum on it.

Sope

Party vibe, so early? This is the kinda track that brings the Lyta comparison, which most people think is stupid. Could easily be added into a shaku-shaku mix, without interruption. Short, too.

Tire

That kind of intro is becoming his signature. It’s a cool love song.
“You be running through my mind, running through my mind, you for don tire,” who else thinks that pun is mad? Just pon pon pon sound. It’s Fresh, though.

Fantasy

It’s that Lagos night party vibe. Loud music, I mean it sounds sweeter, if you loud it up.
Mayorkun’s got an amazing chemistry with Kiddominant that I’ve always wanted to talk about, that’s why the interlude when he was talking seemed right, as unconventional as it is. He said some Igbo, you know.

Aya Mi

DJ Coublon? Afro-dancehall. Wizkid. Fela. No, Wizkid. The tempo is lower than the mid sef. “Sho wa comfortable?” I got it right.
“I’ll be your StarBoy, on the Weeknd” (I already said he’s the most lyrical ever.)

Posh

We all know Northboi as that “Soco” producer, so, that Wiz vibe was all around Posh. If Wizkid was featured, it wouldn’t be bad, afterall.

Oshepete (Ft. D’banj)

Afrobeat. They tryna sample Fela…? First collabo on the album.
As good as the D’banj effect on the track is, Bangalee couldn’t outshine Mayorkun. Guys, what’s even the meaning of Legendary self?

Jonze Me (Ft. Sarkodie)

Easily a filler. Project would be good (or even better) without it. But you don’t light a candle and pit it under a bushel.
Simply means, you can’t have a Sarkodie collabo, and not put it on your debut album!

Drama Queen

Fresh at it again. This is the most different sound on the whole tape. It’s a classical sound, it’s got jazz, alternative, rock, anything not Nigerian.
Mayorkun, singing ’bout Olosho, like he’s Adekunle. It’s just a ‘by the way’ jam, by the way.

Mofo (Ft. Patoranking)

Dance hall. Patoesque. Pato murdered Mayor here, let’s be honest. Probably cause Mayorkun ain’t heavy on dance.

Red Handed (Ft. Peruzzi, Dremo & Yonda)

The rest of the album sees Mayorkun having fun with his guys. On “Red Handed” he alongside Peruzzi, Dremo and Yonda, banged the Afro beat.

Bobo, Che Che & Mama (His previously released Songs)

Then there are previously released hits like “Bobo” (featuring Davido), “Che Che” and “Mama.”
Surely, you have listened to these 3 songs already. They are nothing but certified hit bangers that cemented Mayorkun’s love in the hearts of many Nigerians.
We sincerely do not need to write any Epistle about these 3 songs. They are crazy tunes we’ve rocked over the past few months and year(s). Abi I lie??
